East Corinth- The Houlton Shiretowner girls basketball team is certainly making a big statement early in the season in Eastern Maine Class B.  Houlton improved to 4-0 Saturday evening knocking down 7 three-pointers and easily defeating the Central Red Devils 69-36.

Houlton came into the game with an average margin of victory of 28 through their first three contests. Coming off a very impressive 21 point win over Presque Isle in their last outing, Houlton would make easy work of Central on this night. Central would cut an early Houlton 8 point lead down to 4 on a Sydney Allen basket to make it 11-7 in the first period. However, the Shires would put together a 13-0 run over the next 5 minutes of action extending into the second quarter to make it 24-7 including three straight baskets by Natalie Hill.

Houlton would build the lead up to 20 points at halftime and 31 in the third quarter and never gave the Devils a chance to get back into the game.

Kolleen Bouchard had 16 points 11 rebounds and 7 blocks to lead Houlton to the win. The Shires put 5 players in double figures. Natalie Hill had 15 as did Aspen Flewelling, who scored all her points on 5 three-pointers,  including the final 12 points of the game for Houlton on four straight from behind the arc to give them the 33 point margin. Also scoring in double digits was Katie Condon with 11 and Kylee Warman with 10.

Central (1-2) was led by Sydney Allen who had 9 points while Rachael Smith had 8. Libby Cook also chipped in with 6.

Houlton will now have a week off before traveling to MDI next Saturday, December 19th to face the Trojans at 3:30 p.m. Central gets back into action on Tuesday, December 15th hosting Orono at 7 p.m.
