I was able to keep my head above water last week posting a 2-1-1 record and now 14 games above the .500 mark for the season. This week there are very few games to choose from and all non-conference matchups Saturday and Sunday. For the first time this season I pick games that include the Canisius Golden Griffins and the newest addition to Division 1 hockey, the Arizona State Sun Devils.

Last week’s record: 2-1-1 Season record: 23-9-8

Last week’s results:

Friday, December 11th

Merrimack 3 UConn 3 tied pick

Michigan 8 Minnesota 3 correct pick

Saturday, December 12th

North Dakota 3 Minnesota-Deluth 0 correct pick

Boston University 4 Quinnipiac 1 incorrect pick

This week’s games:

Saturday, December 19th

Michigan St (5-10-0) at Northeastern  (2-12-3)

The Spartans have been subpar so far this year alot of ups and downs and also a tough early schedule. The Huskies from Northeastern have been nothing short of disappointing but have played better hockey as of late. The Spartans are coming off a home split with Wisconsin while Northeastern played two tight games on the road with #2 Boston College two weeks ago, tying 3-3 and losing a tough 4-3 game.

The pick- I like the way Northeastern has played of late and that they have some time off.  Northeastern 3, Michigan State 2

Arizona State (5-10-0) at #6 Nebraska-Omaha (12-3-1)

The Sun Devils have had their bumps so far adjusting to playing a Division 1 hockey schedule. The Mavericks are in late season form and it’s only December.  Arizona St got swept 5-1 and 4-1 last week at RPI while Nebraska-Omaha comes off a split on the road at #7 St Cloud State two weeks ago.

The pick- In the Mavericks home building the Sun Devils are certainly over matched.  Nebraska-Omaha 6, Arizona State 1

Sunday, December 20th

Vermont (5-11-2) at Union (6-6-4)

The Catamounts have also been another team that has been a little inconsistent so far. They are coming off a split with St Lawrence last weekend. Union got off to a slow start but have come on as of late, tying #8 Harvard two weeks ago before beating UMass in overtime last weekend.

The pick- The Dutchmen have showed more signs of turning their season around. Union 4, Vermont 2

Canisius (5-11-1) at #20 Merrimack (6-4-5)

The Golden Griffins make a trip into Lawler Arena to face the #20 Warriors out of Hockey East. Canisius comes in off a split with Robert Morris and Merrimack tied UConn on the road last Friday.

The pick- These two teams are close talent wise and I simply take Merrimack because they are at home.  Merrimack 4, Canisius 3
