Purdue glides past Maine Women

West Lafayette, Indiana- The Purdue Boilermakers women’s basketball team held Maine to 31% shooting Monday night and their lowest point total of the season to win their fourth consecutive game by bouncing the Black Bears 56-33 at MacKey Arena.

The Black Bears committed early turnovers and shot just 2-12 in the opening quarter as the Boilermakers took a 7 point lead after the opening ten minutes and eventually a 13 point halftime lead. It was the lowest point total for a half this year by the Black Bears as they trailed 27-14 at the break.

Purdue, out of the Big 10 conference, would eventually race out to a 22 point third quarter lead and increased it to as many as 28 early in the fourth quarter and the Black Bears would never get closer than 23 points the rest of the way.

Bridget Perry led 9-2 Purdue with 10 points, 8 rebounds 5 assists and 3 steals. April Wilson also contributed 10 points and also had 4 rebounds and 5 assists. Purdue shot 26-54 for 48% on the evening.

Maine, who has their three game win streak snapped and drops to 9-5 on the year, Sigi Koizar had 9 points while Bella Swan had 8 points and 10 rebounds and Mikaela Gustafsson also chipped in with 8 points.

Maine also failed to register one player with double digits in scoring for the first time this season and had their lowest point outing since a 58-37 loss to Dayton on November 27th. The Bears shot only 15-48 from the field (31%) and only 1-15 from three point range while committing 17 turnovers in the loss.

Maine wraps up their non conference schedule on December 31st with a trip to Chapel Hill, North Carolina to face the North Carolina Tarheels at 1 p.m.  Purdue will open up Big 10 play on December 31st at Michigan with tipoff also scheduled for 1 p.m.
