Bucksport softball won their third state title in four years, while Maine women’s basketball defeated a SEC team and an ACC team in the early 2015/2016 season.

Here is a look at our top five stories for 2015.

3. Bucksport rolls to win over Telstar to capture third state title in four years

BREWER- Not many would argue that the Bucksport Bucks are the most dominant program in class C softball. The Bucks made another statement to that claim on Saturday afternoon at Coffin field.

Bucksport (19-1) racked up 16 hits and rolled to a 9-4 victory over Telstar in the class C state championship game.

The Rebels took advantage of three Bucks errors to take an early 2-0 lead. Bucksport wasn’t having a problem getting base runners in the first two innings, they were having an issue getting those runners home. The Bucks left five runners on base through the first two innings.

That all changed in the bottom of the third inning when Sami Goode, Kim Nason, and Makenzie Smith all had run scoring hits. That trio hits at the bottom of coach Mike Carrier’s batting order.

“We had people in scoring position every inning, eventually we knew it was going to break loose,”Carrier said. “It was going to happen for us, we are going to get that key hit.”
