BANGOR- The Highview Christian Academy girls basketball team continued their sizzling play on Monday afternoon. Kelsea McDonald scored a game high 23 points to lead the Knights to a 45-44 win over Woodland in a crossover game played at Eastern Maine Community College.
HCA, now 8-3 and winners of four straight games, had a strong first half helping them build a 25-16 halftime advantage.
Woodland began the third quarter on a 11-0 run to help the Dragons take a 27-25 lead. The Knights would again take control and took a 30-29 advantage into the final period. Highview would again take a six point advantage with just 1:50 remaining only to have the Dragons rally once more. Woodland took a 1 point lead on a Shawna Monk layup with just 18 seconds left but Highview got the ball ahead to Megan McDonald who went strong to the basket and scored with just 8 seconds remaining to put the Knights back up 1. Woodland had one more chance on the ensuing possession but the shot hit off the back rim as time expired.
The HCA Knights out of Charleston, and playing out of the Class D South, also got 8 points from Cassidy Lessner and 6 points from Cassidy Burns.
For the Woodland Dragons (5-6), out of Class C North, they got 11 points from Jenni Cox and 8 points each from Sadie Smith, Shaye Beers and Lauren Cook.
Highview returns to action Wednesday night as they take a trip downeast to face Shead at 6:30 p.m. Woodland will travel to play Jonesport-Beals on Thursday at 6:30.
