Stearns comes back from 22 point first half deficit to get win over PCHS

GUILFORD– The Stearns girls basketball team over came a 22 point deficit to record a big 52-50 class C north girls basketball victory over Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS) on Monday evening.

PCHS scored the first 11 points of the second quarter to build the lead to 31-9 with 3:15 remaining in the first half. Mackenzie Carter and Emma Alley combined to score 13 points the last three minutes of the half as Stearns cut the deficit to 16 (38-22) heading into halftime.

The Minutemen hit five three pointers in the third quarter as they outscored the Pirates 20-5 during the quarter to cut the deficit to 43-42. Peighton Ingersoll scored five points in the fourth quarter, including nailing a three pointer, while Alley went 3-4 from the free throw line to secure the dramatic comeback victory.

Alley led the way with 18 points , Ingersoll added 12 points, while Jessicca Girsa scored nine points on 3 three pointers, Carter scored eight points, while Abby Russell chipped in with four points, while Julia Stanley made one free throw.Stearns (10-4) will travel to Penquis on Friday evening.

Jordynne Littlefield led the way for the Pirates with 16 points (4 three pointers), freshman Alivia Hunt recorded 10 points and 10 rebounds, Delani Bennett chipped in with nine points and 12 rebounds, Erin Speed added eight points, Haylee Patterson scored three points, while Lexi Harris put in two points. PCHS (7-4) will host Greenville on Tuesday night.
