Black Bears win on Play4Kay night

The University of Maine womens basketball team never trailed on Monday night, but they did get a scare. The Black Bears held on for a 59-55 victory over the University of New Hampshire to improve to 10-1 in the America East and 19-7 overall. It is the Black Bears seventh win in a row overall, and their 17th straight win at the Cross Insurance Center.

Sigi Koizar and Bella Swan led Maine with 20 points each. Swan also pulled down seven rebounds, while Koizar recorded six rebounds and three assists.Mikaela Gustaffson also scored in double figures with 10 points. Liz Wood only scored three points, but filled up the stat sheet with eight rebounds, six assists, and two steals.

The Black Bears shot 7-15 from three point range and 12-15 from the free throw line, while the Wildcats shot 3-15 from three point range and 4-6 from the free throw line. UNH outscored Maine 15-9 in the third quarter and 20-12 in the fourth quarter.

Maine will go for their 20th win of the season when they travel to UMass Lowell on February 11th. Elizabeth Belanger led the Wildcats with 21 points (3-7 three pointers) and five rebounds. Monday night was the Play4Kay game for the University of Maine. For more info or to donate please go here.
