BANGOR– The Presque Isle girls basketball team showed their tournament experience, when they rallied from a 10 point halftime deficit, and cruised to a 51-35 Maine Principals’ Association class B north quarterfinal victory over John Bapst on Friday evening at the Cross Insurance Center.
The Crusaders went on an 18-2 run to take a 22-11 lead late in the second quarter. John Bapst held a 26-16 lead at halftime, behind eight points in the half from Crystal Bell.
The Wildcats came out in the second half and took control. They scored the first 10 points in the half to even the score at 26. They took a lead they wouldn’t give back when Emily Wheaton drained a three pointer to make it 29-27. Presque Isle outscored John Bapst 35-9 in the second half.
Wheaton led the Wildcats with 15 points (11 in the second half), four rebounds, and two assists. Regan Nelson filled up the stat sheet with 12 points (10 in the second half), 11 rebounds, and five blocks. Emily Lagerstrom recorded nine points and 11 rebounds. Taylor Williams added five points, eight rebounds, and five assists. Olivia Hudson and Skyler Vogel scored four points each, while Meg Boone scored two points. Presque Isle (16-3) will play in a semifinal game on Wednesday, February 17th at 2:05 p.m.
Bell led the Crusaders with 12 points and five rebounds. Caleigh Lebel, Hannah Phillippon, and Abbey Legassw put in five points each, while Grace Phillippon and Madi Higgins scored four points each. Lebel also had eight rebounds and three blocks. John Bapst finishes the season with a 12-8 record.
