Alyssa Derrick had two hits and five runs batted in, including a three run homer to lead the University of Maine softball team to a 10-1 win over Marist on Friday morning at Clearwater, Florida.

The Black Bears started quickly thanks to one out hits from Rachel Carlson and Janelle Bouchard, followed by a double from Derrick that scored Carlson in the top of the first inning.

Marist evened the score quickly when Kyrsten Van Natta hit a run scoring double to score Maureen Duddy in the bottom of the first inning.

The Black Bears took a lead they wouldn’t give back when Derrick hit a sacrifice fly that scored Bouchard in the third inning. Meghan Royle, Erika Leonard, and Bouchard each had run scoring hits as Maine took a 5-1 lead in the fourth inning.

Maine scored two more, including one on a Royle double that scored Felicia Lennon in the fifth inning. Derrick put the game away with a three run blast that scored Carlson and Leonard in the sixth inning.

Erin Bogdanovich pitched a scoreless bottom of the sixth inning to give the Black Bears the six inning run rule victory. Annie Kennedy earned the victory in the circle. Kennedy (3-3) allowed one run on three hits and one walk, while striking out two in four innings.

Maine (6-9) fell to Stetson 6-3 in a game later on Friday. The Black Bears will play Rutgers and Long Island on Saturday at Clearwater.
