It may have been played in Winter Haven, Florida, but it was a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener for Thomas and Castleton on Saturday afternoon. Dominic Esposito pitched 2.1 innings of hitless relief to lead the Terriers to a 4-3 victory.
Castleton jumped out quickly, when they scored two runs in the top of the first inning. Thomas came right back and scored three runs on a run scoring triple from Derek Kane, and run scoring hits from Nik Beeson and Alex Curtis to score three runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Castleton evened the score in the top of the third inning. The Terriers scored the go ahead run on a sacrifice fly from Zach Mathieu that scored Anree Benitez in the bottom of the fifth inning. Esposito stuck out the final two batters in the top of the seventh inning to close out the victory.
The teams were scheduled to play a second game on Saturday afternoon. The game was postponed with Thomas leading 2-0 in the third inning. Thomas (4-5/1-0) and Castleton (6-7/0-1) will play a conference doubleheader at Auburndale, Florida starting at noon on Sunday.
