Husson softball shuts out UMPI in doubleheader sweep

The Husson University Eagles softball team swept the University of Maine at Presque Isle (UMPI) in a doubleheader at O’Keefe Field on the campus of Husson University on Monday afternoon.

The Eagles didn’t allow any runs in the 12 innings of play. Alannah Healy dominated in the circle in a 4-0 game one victory. Healy allowed three hits and struck out six. Courtney McIntyre and Elizabeth Richard recorded two hits each to spark the offense.

McIntyre and Olivia Smith combined to toss a three hitter in an 8-0 game two victory. The game ended after five innings due to the run rule. McIntyre allowed only two hits and struck out five in her four innings. Smith allowed one hit and stuck put two in the fifth inning to close out the doubleheader. Casey Heath had three hits, two runs scored, and one RBI while Lyndsay Merrill had two hits, two runs scored, and two RBI to spark the offense

Husson (5-15/1-1) will get back to conference play on Wednesday when they host Thomas in a doubleheader.

UMPI (17-9) had a seven game winning streak coming into Monday. They will play a doubleheader at Lyndon State on Saturday afternoon.
