Central baseball starts season with win over Dexter

The Central Red Devils baseball team used a five run third inning to earn a 9-7 season opening win over Dexter on Thursday afternoon at Corinth.

The Tigers took a lead when they put three runs on the board in the second inning. The Red Devils responded with two runs. Micah Ward received a one out walk, freshman Gage Poulin followed with a double in his first official high school at bat. Michael Bruce capped the inning with a single.

The Red Devils sent 10 batters to the plate in their big third inning. Caleb Shaw, Grant Poulin, Gage Poulin, and Ward each had one RBI during the inning. Dexter scored three runs in the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 7-6. Central responded thanks to Ethan Mailman delivering a leadoff single in the bottom of the fourth and Grant Poulin bringing him home. Shaw created the final run of the game with a base hit and some solid base running.

Shaw pitched three innings, while Zach Randall fired the final four to earn the victory for the Red Devils.  Gage Poulin finished with two hits, two runs scored, and two RBI. Central (1-0) will host Orono on Saturday afternoon.

Cameron Pratt and Matt Hanscome scored two runs each for the Tigers. Dexter (0-2) will travel to Bucksport on Saturday.
