Hot pitching can cool down a hot team. That is exactly what happened to the Central Red Devils baseball team this past week.  Beckett Slayton fired a complete game three hitter with five strikeouts in leading George Stevens to a 2-0 win over the Red Devils at Blue Hill on Thursday afternoon. Caleb Shaw turned in a outstanding performance in the mound against the high powered Eagles. Shaw allowed only one earned run and two hits.

It didn’t get any easier on Friday for Central. Class B power Hermon scored three runs in the first inning and Zach Nash took care of the rest. Nash pitched a complete game four hitter, striking out six in leading the Hawks to a 12-0 six inning mercy rule victory at Central high school. Nick Guerette sparked the Hawks offense by reaching base three times. Zach Randall pitched the first five innings for the Red Devils, while Gage Poulin pitched the final inning. Ethan Mailman recorded two hits.

Central (4-3) will get George Stevens again on Tuesday afternoon, this time in East Corinth. The Red Devils will also play at Mattanawcook and Dexter this week. Eastern Maine Sports will broadcast the Central at Dexter game  live on Friday, May 13th at 4:25 PM.
