HAMPDEN- The Bangor Rams baseball team used a balanced offensive attack and a good pitching performance from reliever Jesse Colford to stay unbeaten with an 8-4 Class A North victory over Hampden Academy at Mike Bordick Park in Hampden Friday night. The Rams are now 13-0 on the season.

Peter Kemble and Ryan Brookings each had RBI singles over the first two innings to give the Rams an early 2-0 lead. Hampden began their half of the second with a single, hit batsman, then three consecutive singles to score a pair to make it 2-2 and knock Bangor starter Nick Coperthwaite out of the game.

Reliever Colford would come on and get three straight outs though to keep it 2-2.

The game remained tied until the Bangor top of the fifth inning. RBI hits from Trevor Delaite and Kemble made it 4-2. Delaite would score on an error when Hampden shortstop threw the ball over the head of catcher Cam Scott on a stolen base attempt to make it 5-2 Rams. Colford would finish off the big inning when he hit a long fly ball to left that kept carrying and went over the left field fence for a two run shot to make it 7-2.

An RBI single from Jordan Dysart in which Bangor right fielder Kemble tried to catch a runner at third base that was thrown away allowed another runner to score on the same play cut the lead to 7-4 in the bottom of the fifth.

Brookings would finish off the scoring in the top of the sixth with two outs as he hit a solo homer down the left field line that just stayed fair inside the line to make it 8-4.

The Bangor offense was led by Kyle Stevenson who was 3 for 4 with two singles, a double and two runs scored. Kemble, Colford and Brookings all had two RBI each. Colford got the win on the hill going five innings, allowing six hits, two runs, one earned, no walks, and six strikeouts.

Hampden (6-7) was led by Jackson Gilmore who had three singles and an RBI. Billy Campbell also had three singles on the night. Andrew Gendreau took the loss allowing eight hits, seven earned runs, no walks, and four strikeouts in five innings of work.

Bangor will host Edward Little in a huge Class A matchup Monday at 4 p.m. That is a battle between the two top teams in the Class A North standings. Hampden will head to Brewer Monday at 7 p.m. for a contest with the Witches.
