Maine softball drops opening game in NCAA Regionals in Georgia

The Maine softball team competing in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 12 years was shutout in their opening game 6-0 by SEC opponent Georgia in a game in Athens, Georgia Friday afternoon.

Maine was held to just five hits on the afternoon and Chelsea Wilkinson and Kylie Bass combined to strikeout 14 Black Bear batters to lead the Bulldogs to the win.

Tina Iosefa had two hits and a pair of RBI and Alyssa Dicarlo had two hits and three RBI to lead the Georgia (41-17) offense.

Five different Black Bears had singles and Erin Bogdonavich took the loss in the circle allowing nine hits, five earned runs, four walks, and had four strikeouts in the six innings pitched.

Maine (28-20) will now face Oklahoma State (29-25) in an elimination game on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. This will be the first ever meeting between the two teams and the game can be seen live on ESPN 3.
