PCHS softball locks down home prelim game with win over Dexter

The Piscataquis community high school (PCHS) softball team scored six runs in the first inning and held on for a 10-4 victory over Dexter on Wednesday afternoon.

The Pirates sent 10 batters to the plate in the first inning. Jordynne Littlefield got the scoring started when she ripped a single that scored Erin Speed. Delani Bennett followed with a double that scored Jewel Lamb and Littlefield. Rachel Beckwith hit a double, while Hope Adkins and Lena Downes each had one RBI during the inning.

While the offense exploded early, Jewell Lamb was cruising in the circle during the early innings for the Pirates. Lamb had five strikeouts in the first two innings. She didn’t allow a hit until the fourth inning. Lamb finished with a complete game, allowing four runs (three earned), on four hits, and one walk, while striking out five.

Lamb, Littlefield, Courtney Deane,Beckwith, and Adkins finished with two hits each. Bennett and Downes recorded two RBI each. Lamb, Alivia Hunt, and Deane scored two runs each. PCHS (9-7) finished as the number eight seed in the final Maine Principals’ Association class C heal point standings. The Pirates will host Washington Academy in a preliminary round game on Tuesday, June 9th.

Christie Nicholas, Megan Peach, Tory Asbury, and Alyssa Brasier each had one hit for the Tigers. Brasier had two RBI, Dexter (8-8) finished 10th in the class C standings and will travel to George Stevens for a prelim game on Tuesday.
