Huge Sports weekend scheduled for UMaine Homecoming

This weekend October 14-16 is homecoming weekend at the University of Maine and as usual all sports teams, both men and women, will host home games.

In Womens Soccer, the Black Bears who are 6-6 and 2-3 in America East, will host rival UNH at Mahaney Diamond Sunday at 1 p.m.

In Field Hockey, Maine enters the weekend with a 9-4 overall record and a 2-1 mark in the conference. The Bears play host to Vermont on Friday at noon, and University of California on Sunday at 11 a.m.

The Womens Ice Hockey team also play a single game in Orono, as they host Merrimack on Friday at 2 p.m. The Bears enter the game 1-5 overall and 0-2 in Hockey East, as they try to notch their first conference win.

The Maine Football team will challenge #17 Albany at Alfond Stadium at noon on Saturday. The Bears got their first conference win of the season on the road last Saturday at Delaware 28-21, and enter at 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the CAA. The Great Danes lost their first game of the season last weekend at #6 Richmond, 36-30 in a thrilling triple overtime game. Albany is 4-1, 1-1.

The Maine Mens Ice Hockey team also faces a big challenge this weekend as they welcome the #3 team in the country Quinnipiac, who were the national runners up last season. Maine (2-0-0) got a great start last weekend by winning two games against RPI at the Alfond by scores of 5-1 and 4-2. Quinnipiac (1-0-1) tied and got a win last weekend at home against #15 Northeastern. Game time is 7:30 p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Saturday.
