Paul Pierce, who helped lead the Boston Celtics to an NBA title in 2008, announced last month that the 2016-17 season would be his last NBA season.

Pierce took that a step further on Wednesday when he announced on a radio show on Sirius XM radio next summer he will sign a one day contract with Boston and will retire as a part of the Celtics.

Pierce stated, “I owe that to myself and to the fans”.

Pierce, nicknamed “The Truth”, ranks 11th all time in most points scored all time on one team with 24,021 in Boston. He spent 15 years with the Celts. Pierce will finish up his career in his second season and 19th season overall with the Los Angeles Clippers with his former Boston coach, Doc Rivers. He also played a season each with the Brooklyn Nets and Washington Wizards.
