Recap of UMaine Womens Sports on Homecoming weekend

The University of Maine Field Hockey team played a pair of home games on homecoming weekend, and ending up getting a split in the two games.

Maine would top Vermont in overtime on Friday 3-2 at the Maine Field Hockey Complex. Ella Mosky scored the game winner on an assist from Danielle Aviani. Casey Crowley scored the other two Bears goals as Maine won their 10th game for the eighth straight year and is 3-1 in the conference.

On Sunday, the Bears lost to the California Golden Bears 3-1.

Danielle Aviani scored the lone Black Bear goal. Maine is now 10-5 overall. Maine will host UMass-Lowell Thursday at 3 p.m.

 

The University of Maine Womens Soccer team came up victorious in their lone homecoming contest over the weekend.

Maine beat rival UNH in double overtime Sunday 1-0.

Kaitlyn Ball found a wide open Vivien Beil near the end of the second overtime, and Beil would net the game winner giving Maine their first conference win since September 29.

Maine is now 7-7 overall and 3-4 in America East play. Maine will host Albany on senior night Thursday night at 7 p.m.

 

The University of Maine Womens Ice Hockey team got a split of games this weekend.

Maine would lose their homecoming game Friday afternoon 5-1 to Merrimack College, before beating the #5 team in the country Boston College 3-2 Saturday in a game played in Auburn, Maine.

Tereza Vanisova scored the Bears lone goal in the loss on Friday to the Warriors of Merrimack.

Morgan Sakundiak, Brooke Stacey and Vendula Pribylova had goals Saturday to help Maine upset the Eagles and win their first Hockey East game of the season. Pribylova scored the game winner with just 36 seconds left in regulation.

Carly Jackson made 28 saves to backstop the Bears win. Jackson also was named the Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week by Hockey East. The loss by Boston College ended their 53 game Hockey East unbeaten streak, the longest ever in the conference.

Maine is now 2-6 overall and 1-3 in Hockey East. The Black Bears take a week off before returning to conference play at Providence College on Friday, October 28th at 7 p.m. Maine then hosts Vermont on Sunday, October 30th at 2 p.m.
