Maine Mens basketball runs past UMPI

The University of Maine Mens basketball team put four players in double figures Saturday afternoon, in defeating Division III University of Maine-Presque Isle 96-45 at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

Austin Howard led Maine (2-4) with 19 points that included 7-7 from the floor (4-4 three point range). Ilker Er had 15 points and seven rebounds, while Andrew Fleming knocked in 14 points, and Marko Pirovic chipped in 12 points and nine rebounds. The Black Bears shot 51 percent from the floor and made 14 three pointers in the game and raced out to a 20 point halftime lead over the visiting Owls.

Muarice Harris led UMPI (1-3) with 16 points, while Anthony Chacho had nine and Derek Healey finished with eight.

UMPI returns to action Monday when it travels to UMaine-Fort Kent for a 7 p.m. contest while Maine will host Central Connecticut State Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
