Central girls basketball cruise to win over George Stevens in final tuneup before regular season

CORINTH— The Central Red Devils girls basketball team went on a 9-2 run to start the second half and rolled to a 50-33 victory in a final preseason tuneup before the regular season for both teams.

Sydney Allen and Libby Cook led the Red Devils with 13 points each. Cook also pulled down seven rebounds and had three steals. Allen filled up the stat sheet with seven rebounds, five steals, and three assists.

Sydney’s sister Abi Allen scored seven points and pulled down three rebounds. Abi’s freshman classmate Emily Cohen scored seven points and pulled down five rebounds.

Emma Campbell scored six points, including four during the Red Devils third quarter run. Campbell also had six rebounds and three steals. Emily Smith added four points. Central will open the regular season at Mattanawcook on Friday night.

Morgan Dauk scored a game high 15 points for the Eagles. Dauk also pulled down 21 rebounds. Mallory Charette and Sarah Mullen scored four points each.  Mazie Smallidge recorded three points, seven rebounds, and two blocks. Emma Crosby scored three points, while Julianna Allen and Dawn Hutchinson added two points each. George Stevens will open the regular season at Deer Isle-Stonington on Friday night.
