Stearns girls basketball off to a hot start: Hermon boys make an early season statement

The Stearns girls basketball team was the pick for class C North in Eastern Maine Sports preseason predictions. After the first two games those predictions haven’t come close to changing. The Minutemen are averaging 87 points after defeating PVHS 78-28 on Wednesday night.

Freshman Katherine Alley is averaging 24 points in her first two games. Alley earned Eastern Maine Sports Roadrunner Taxi female athlete of the week in the first week of the winter season. For the full girls basketball scoreboard click here.

The Hermon Hawks boys basketball team held a 38-33 halftime lead and maintained that five point advantage to grab a 70-65 win over Orono. Hermon is now 2-0, the Hawks defeated Presque Isle 64-48 over the weekend. Orono was picked as the top team in class B north in the preseason predictions. The Hawks, who were picked third will get another tough test when they host MDI on Saturday.
