Weekend College Hockey Picks by Chris

December 30, 2016

After a week off for the Christmas break, I am back with the weekly picks. Last time I made some projections I immediately went into a 0-2 hole on Saturday nights games but bounced back nicely on Sunday to even up at 2-2. This week Maine plays a neutral ice non-conference game with UNH, Denver visits Providence, Bentley visits Vermont, and North Dakota travels to Union.

Last time out: 2-2-0  Season record: 25-14-5

Results from the last picks:

Saturday 12/17

Minnesota-Deluth 2 Bemidji State 1 incorrect pick

Union 7 Vermont 3 incorrect pick

Sunday 12/18

Northeastern 6 Michigan State 2 correct pick

Union 2 Vermont 1 correct pick

This weeks games:

Friday, December 30

Maine (7-9-3) at UNH (8-7-2) at Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, NH

The Black Bears were able to sweep AIC at the Alfond last time they hit the ice three weeks ago. These two teams played a home and home four weeks ago with UNH taking both games. The Wildcats were beaten 5-1 by Dartmouth their last time out on 12/10.

The pick- Maine doesn’t win away from the Alfond and have been dominated lately in this series by UNH. Can’t pick the Bears here, but hope they prove us wrong. UNH 4 MAINE 2

#2 Denver (12-3-3) at Providence (7-6-3)

Jimmy Montgomery and the boys make a trip East to visit the Friars. The Pioneers have been playing great hockey and split a home series with #1 Minnesota-Deluth three weeks ago. Providence swept RIT on the road the last time they were on the ice.

The pick- Can’t pick against Denver even traveling East. The Pioneers have a great team and good chance to make the Frozen Four this year. DENVER 5, PROVIDENCE 2

Saturday, December 31

Bentley (4-8-4) at #13 Vermont (10-6-2)

The Catamounts will be looking to bounce back after being swept by Union at home a few weeks back. Bentley comes in after a home split with Robert Morris.

The pick- Catamounts take some frustration out on visiting Bentley. VERMONT 7, BENTLEY 1

#8 North Dakota (9-6-3) at #10 Union (14-3-2)

Another long trip East, this time for the defending National Champs. UND split at home with Western Michigan, while Union swept a series from Vermont in the teams last contests.

The pick- UND has underachieved a little thus fur, even though they are still ranked in top 10. Look for them to get a big road win over another top 10 team. UND 3, UNION 2
