Buffalo pulls away from Maine Men in College basketball action

The University of Maine Mens basketball team took an early five point lead Friday night, but Buffalo stormed back and pulled away for a 79-60 win at Alumni Arena in Buffalo.

Maine (4-10) took an early 7-2 lead, but Buffalo went on a 13-0 run to grab an eight point lead. The Bulls held a 37-27 halftime advantage.

The Black Bears got within 40-39 early in the second half, but Maine went cold from the field and Buffalo pulled away, leading by as many as 22 to earn the victory improving to 6-7.

Austin Howard led the way for Maine with 18 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Andrew Fleming had another double double with 14 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Maine shot just 33 percent from the floor, and 36 percent from the foul line (5-14).

Blake Hamilton led Buffalo with 15 points, nine rebounds, and three assists. Nick Perkins had 11 points, four rebounds, and two blocks. Buffalo shot at a 49 percent clip from the floor, and 76 percent (19-25) from the line.

Maine will attempt to break their four game losing streak when they host Columbia on Monday at 2 p.m. at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.
