DEXTER– The Dexter Tigers boys basketball team shot 16-26 from the free throw line, including 13-20 in the fourth quarter to secure a 55-45 win over Foxcroft at Ed Guiski gymnasium on Thursday night.
Max Santagata scored the first basket of the game. That would give the Ponies a 2-0 lead. They would take their last lead when Hyatt Smith made a three pointer early in the first quarter to make it 5-4. The Tigers went on an 11-0 run to take a 15-5 lead after the first quarter. Foxcroft outscored Dexter 16-9 in the second quarter to cut the deficit to 24-21 at the half. Brayden Miller had eight points in the first half for Dexter. Drew Dankert scored nine points in the second quarter for the Ponies.
The Tigers put up a solid third quarter, scoring 16 points and put the game away with clutch free throw shooting in the fourth quarter.
Miller scored 18 points (10 in the second half) and pulled down eight rebounds to lead the Tigers. Joshua Simcock put in 11 points, including 2 three-pointers. William Strauch added 10 points (4-5 FT in fourth quarter) and eight rebounds. while Zach White scored six points and dished out seven assists. CJ Cooper put in two free throws in the fourth quarter.
The Tigers out rebounded Foxcroft 24-17. Dexter (5-2) will host Stearns on Friday night. You can hear that game live here starting at 6:50 PM.
Dankert led the Ponies with 17 points (3 three-pointers), Smith put in nine points, Jeremy Richard scored five points and had four steals. Santagata scored four points, Cameron Marsh made a three pointer, Nick Clawson, Nick Dyer, and Riley Richard added two points each, while Joshua Reed made one free throw.
Foxcroft (1-6) will host Old Town on Saturday.
