Chris’s Weekend College Hockey Projections

January 6, 2017

I had a great weekend of picks last week with a 3-0-1 record, putting me 14 games over the .500 mark with six ties. This week Maine is playing an exhibition game against the USA Under 18 Development Team, omitting them from this weeks projections. Instead I take a look at a big matchup in the Big 10, and three Hockey East games, with two of them taking place at Fenway Park.

Last weeks record 3-0-1 Season 28-14-6

Last weeks results:

Friday 12/30

UNH 6 Maine 4 correct pick

Denver 2 Providence 2 tied pick

Saturday 12/31

Vermont 3 Bentley 1 correct pick

North Dakota 3 Union 1 correct pick

This weeks games:

Friday, January 6

#2 Penn State (13-1-1, 2-0-0 Big Ten) at #11 Ohio State (9-3-4, 1-1-0 Big Ten)

Thats right the #2 team in all of College Hockey quietly is the Penn State Nittany Lions. PSU has the nations longest win streak at 11 games and is unbeaten in 13 straight. Last weekend at home, PSU rocked #20 Michigan by scores of 6-1 and 5-1. Ohio State is coming off a 6-3 home loss to Miami (Ohio)

The pick- Feel pretty confident with this pick. The Nittany Lions keep rolling. PENN ST 4, OHIO ST 2

#6 UMass-Lowell (13-5-3, 6-3-1 Hockey East) at UNH (9-7-2, 5-1-1 Hockey East)

The Riverhawks visit the Whittemore Center and come off a Tuesday night 5-1 win over RPI. The home Wildcats have been a surprise winning five of their first seven league games. UNH topped Maine in a non-conference matchup 6-4 last Friday night in Manchester, NH.

The pick- I like the way the Wildcats had played before the break and after the break last Friday. And the goaltending has been excellent. I take the ‘Cats in a mild upset. UNH 3, UML 2

Sunday, January 8

Frozen Fenway

Game 1- 1:30 p.m

#5 Boston University (11-5-2, 4-2-2 Hockey East) vs UMass (5-14-2, 2-7-1 Hockey East)

The Terriers and Minutemen open up a day of hockey at Fenway Park. BU got a big win in overtime at home 5-4 Thursday night against Union. UMass lost Tuesday night at home 3-0 to American International.

The pick- These two teams are trending in total opposite directions. BU 6, UMASS 2

Game 2- 5 p.m.

#8 Boston College (13-7-2, 8-1-1 Hockey East) vs Providence (8-6-4, 1-4-2 Hockey East)

The Eagles and Friars play the nightcap at the Fens. The Eagles come in off a tough weekend in the Three Rivers Classic last Thursday and Friday, losing to Quinnipiac and tying Ferris State. Providence had a great weekend at home, tying then #2 Denver Friday night and beating them Saturday night at Schneider Arena.

The pick- I love the effort of the Friars last weekend against a top 5 team Denver, but tough to pick against the Eagles in this one playing in front of pretty much a home crowd. BC 5, PROV 3
