Temple holds off furious Highview second half rally in Class D Girls Action

WATERVILLE- Kiara Carr scored 16 first half points as the Temple Academy girls basketball team built a 17 point halftime lead, then held off a second half blitz by visiting Highview Christian to earn a 41-40 Class D South win Friday evening at Temple Academy.

Carr was limited to just one third quarter basket in the second half, and finished with 18 points, seven rebounds, and two assists to help the Bereans improve to 8-2.

Temple outscored Highview 15-5 in the opening quarter, and 15-8 in the second to build a comfortable 30-13 lead at intermission.

The Knights outscored the Bereans 10-4 in the third and 17-7 in the fourth. Highview had a chance to tie the game with seven seconds left down 41-38, as junior center Cassidy Lessner would score a bucket in the lane, but the Knights ran out of time as the clock expired. Highview turned the ball over 23 times, compared to just 11 for Temple.

Also contributing for Temple was Selam Heinrich who had seven points, and four rebounds. Veronica Rossignol had six points, a rebound, and three assists. Daphne Labbe also had six points, four rebounds and two assists.

Lessner led Highview with 18 points, five rebounds, an assist, and a blocked shot. Lessner scored 16 in the second half, with eight each in the third and fourth quarters. Cassidy Burns had nine points, five rebounds, and two assists. Kelsi Upham also chipped in seven points.

Highview returns to action Saturday afternoon when they host Class C Woodland at 1 p.m. Temple will next play next Friday night when they host Greater Portland Christian at 6:30 p.m.
