Justin Thompson and Chris King come up big in leading Schenck to win over PCHS

GUILFORD– Justin Thompson scored nine of his team high 24 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Schenck Wolverines to a 67-60 victory over Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS) on Wednesday night.

PCHS took their only lead when Bryce Gilbert made a three pointer early in the contest to make it 3-2. The Wolverines went on a 12-0 in the first quarter to take a 12 (17-5) point advantage and they held a 26-17 lead after the first eight minutes.

Chris King scored seven second quarter points as the Wolverines held a 43-31 halftime lead. Gilbert scored nine third quarter points as the Pirates outscored Schenck 15-11 to cut the deficit to 54-46.

Gilbert made two free throws early in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 54-48. Thompson got the lead to 56-48, Gilbert scored two consecutive baskets to get the deficit to 56-52. King gave the Wolverines a 58-52 lead. Gilbert got it back down to a four point deficit (58-54).

After Thompson made one of two from the free throw line to make it 59-54, Dillion Drew had a steal and a basket to cut the deficit to 59-56. Jarod White made a lay-up to get the Pirates within 59-58 with 2:30 remaining.

Justin Thompson went 5-7 from the free throw line in the final two minutes, while Travis Thompson got a big basket with 1:20 remaining, as the Wolverines held on for a seven point win.

Gilbert scored a game high 32 points (17 in the second half). He also recorded seven rebounds, four steals, three blocks, and two assists. Damyan True added 14 points (8-10 FT), three rebounds, and two steals. White chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds. Drew put in four points in the final quarter. PCHS (7-8) will travel to Orono on Friday night.

Justin Thompson recorded 13 rebounds, seven assists, and three blocks. King added 22 points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Mitchell McDunnah put in eight points, including 2 three pointers in the first half. Travis Thompson scored five points and pulled down four rebounds, while Riley Dionne added four points, four rebounds, and two assists. Colby Hannan and Dylan Danforth put in two points each. Schenck (10-5) will play at Penquis on Friday night.

The Wolverines shot 10-19 from the free throw line, while PCHS shot 14-19. Schenck out rebounded the Pirates 32-19. The Wolverines committed 13 turnovers, while PCHS turned it over eight times.
