Rangeley girls use strong second half to surge past Highview

BANGOR- The Lakers from Rangeley Lakes Regional School outscored Highview Christian Academy 32-13 in the second half Friday night, en route to a 52-25 schoolgirl Class D South basketball victory at the UMA-Bangor Campus Fitness Center.

Rangeley came out strong to take a 14-4 lead after one quarter. The host Knights from Charleston cut it to 14-9 with a 5-0 spurt to start the second quarter. Rangeley led at the half 20-12.

The Lakers used a 10-0 run to start the third quarter, and another 6-0 run to start the fourth to pick up their 13th win. Highview got no closer than 14 the rest of the way, after the run to start the second half.

Rangeley (13-3), was led by Sydney Royce who had 19 points, eight rebounds, two steals and an assist. Natasha Haley had 13 points, five rebounds, and two steals. Celia Philbrick also chipped in 12 points and five rebounds.

Highview Christian Academy (4-13), was led by Megan McDonald who had 10 points, four rebounds, and an assist. Cassidy Lessner added nine points, 10 rebounds, and two assists. The Knights committed 26 turnovers in the loss, while the Lakers had 11.

Highview wraps up regular season play on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. when they host Forest Hills. Rangeley makes a trip to Waterville Monday to battle Temple Academy at 5 p.m.
