Shaw and Mailman help Central hold off Dexter for 14th win/Audio Replay included

DEXTER– Caleb Shaw and Ethan Mailman combined for 11 fourth quarter points to help the Central Red Devils boys basketball team hold off a Dexter fourth quarter surge and earn a 38-36 win.

Dexter took their only lead when Jason Campbell made a three pointer to make it 3-0. Central outscored the Tigers 11-1 to take an 11-4 lead after the first quarter. Campbell made 2 three pointers in the second quarter as Dexter cut the deficit to 18-12 heading into halftime.

Central outscored the Tigers 9-1 in the first 7:53 of the second half and got the lead to 27-13 with 6.5 seconds remaining in the third quarter. A technical foul on the Red Devils seemed to change the momentum.

William Strauch made the two shots from the technical to cut the deficit to 27-15. The Tigers built off that momentum to score the first eight points of the fourth quarter and get the deficit to 27-23.

Shaw made a big shot to get the Red Devils a six point lead back. Mailman made two baskets and two free throws in the fourth quarter. Shaw went 3-4 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter, including going 1-2 with five seconds remaining. The Tigers had a chance as they rebounded the Shaw free throw attempt. Shaw grabbed a steal that sealed the 14th win of the season for the Red Devils.

Campbell led the Tigers with 12 points. Zach White and Jacob Bickford had six points each. White also recorded five rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Strauch put in five points, while Brayden Miller added four points, and Joshua Simcock chipped in with three points. Dexter (12-5) will host Bucksport in their regular season finale on Thursday.

Shaw led the Red Devils with 17 points, five rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Mailman recorded 13 points (11 second half),eight rebounds, and three blocks. Andrew Speed added six points, three assists, two rebounds, and two steals. Dylan Gray dominated play near the basket with two points, 10 rebounds, and four blocks. Central (14-3) will host Washington Academy in their regular season finale on Thursday night.
