Lessner leads Highview to win over Forest Hills Thursday

BANGOR- Junior center Cassidy Lessner scored 10 of her game-high 19 points in the fourth quarter Thursday, to lead the Highview Christian Knights to a 39-34 Class D South win over the Forest Hills Tigers at Johnston Gymnasium on the campus of Eastern Maine Community College. The game was the regular season finale for both teams.

Highview Christian trailed early 3-0, but took a 5-3 lead on Lessners first basket in the first quarter, and then never trailed again.

With the score 31-29 in the fourth quarter, the Knights went on a 8-0 run to take their biggest lead of the game at 10, and helped capture their fifth win of the season (5-13).

Along with her game-high in points, Lessner finished off a double double by hauling in 10 rebounds, and also had a blocked shot. Kelsi Upham added five points. Javona Philbrick, Megan McDonald and Cassidy Burns all had four points a piece. Burns also added six assists, while McDonald had three rebounds and 2 steals. Brooke Trafton also had three points. The Knights turned the ball over 17 times, and shot 5-12 from the foul line.

Forest Hills (10-8), was led by Alexandra Lessard who had 15 points, 10 rebounds, and one steal. Patricia Lessard added nine points and four rebounds. Demi Giroux had seven points, and Miranda Shelly added three points. The Tigers turned the ball over 12 times, and shot 11-15 from the foul line.

With the win, Highview moved into seventh place in the Class D South final standings. The Knights will face second seeded Vinalhaven (14-4) in the quarterfinals on Monday, February 20 at 10 a.m. Forest Hills finished fifth and will face fourth ranked Pine Tree Academy (13-5) in their quarterfinal. All Class D South regional games will be played at the Augusta Civic Center.
