BANGOR– The Orono Red Riots jumped out to a 12-1 lead and never trailed in a 54-46 win over Presque Isle in a Maine Principals’ Association class B North quarterfinal boys basketball game played at the Cross Insurance Center on Saturday morning.
The Wildcats went on a 10-1 run to cut the deficit to 13-11 early in the second quarter. Orono held a 23-20 halftime lead.
Nate Desisto scored seven of his game high 21 points in the third quarter as the Red Riots built the lead to 38-32. Orono put the game away by shooting 8-10 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.
Jake Koffman filled up the stat sheet with 14 points, 14 rebounds, and three blocks. Jackson Coutts and Evan Kennefic scored six points each. Connor Robertson added four points and six rebounds. Keenan Collett contributed three points, four assists, and four rebounds. Orono (16-3) will play a semifinal game on Wednesday, February 22nd at 3:35 PM.
Griffin Guerrette led the Wildcats with 16 points, Jason Dumas added 14 points and five rebounds, Bradley Kinney added nine points, 10 rebounds, and two steals. Marcus Ouellette put in six points, while Patrick Cash made one free throw. Presque Isle finishes the season with a 14-6 record.
