George Stevens girls basketball roll to semifinal win over PCHS

BANGOR– The Northern Maine girls basketball world already knew about Morgan Dauk. On Friday night, they got to know a few more off the George Stevens roster.

Dauk recorded 17 points, nine rebounds, and four blocks to lead the way for the Eagles in their 50-29 victory over Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS) in a class C Maine Principals’ Association semifinal game at the Cross Insurance Center.

Emma Crosby and Juliana Allen stepped up in the first half to help the Eagles build a 31-17 halftime lead. Crosby had eight of her nine points in the first half, including two 3-pointers. Allen had six (two 3-pointers) of her eight points in the first half.

With the scored tied at 13 late in the first quarter, the Eagles went on a 10-0 run that extended into the second quarter. George Stevens went on a 6-0 run to end the first half and take a 31-17 halftime lead.

The Eagles put the game away by outscoring PCHS 11-4 in the third quarter. Mazie Smallidge put in six of the 11 George Stevens points during the quarter.

Allen added six rebounds, four assists, and three steals, Smallidge recorded eight points and 10 rebounds. Crosby chipped in with three rebounds and two assists. George Stevens (18-2) will play in the class C North regional in Saturday night at 7:05 PM.

Sara Almirante led the Pirates with 11 points, three rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Erin Speed added eight points, five steals, two assists, and two steals. Alivia Hunt scored five points and grabbed 10 rebounds. PCHS finishes the season with a 15-5 record.
