Vermont trounces Maine again to end Black Bears season

Brendan Bradley and Rob Hamilton both had a goal and an assist Saturday night, as the Vermont Catamounts defeated the Maine Black Bears 5-1, completing a two game sweep in a first round series before 3,345 fans at Gutterson FieldHouse in Burlington.

The Catamounts had three powerplay goals on the night and buried the Black Bears, who ended their season at 11-21-4. Maine also failed to win one game on the road this season (0-12-4).

Vermont used five different goal scorers to advance to the quarterfinal round next weekend. Rob Michel scored the lone Maine goal on the powerplay, on assists from Cam Brown and Blaine Byron.

Matt Morris went the first two periods in net for Maine, stopped 16 of 20 shots. Rob McGovern turned away 8 of 8 shots in the third period in relief of Morris.

Stefanos Lekkas got another win in the Vermont net, stopping 36 of 37 shots. Vermont was 3-5 on the powerplay, while Maine was 1-2. Vermont is now 20-11-5 on the season.
