Maine baseball wins marathon game: Matthew Pushard shines in first outing

March 6, 2017

Tyler Schwanz didn’t get a hit for the first five and a half hours of the University of Maine baseball game against St. Bonaventure at DelRay, Florida.

Schwanz doubled home Lou Della Frey to give the Black Bears  5-4 lead in the top of the 18th inning. Matthew Pushard shut the door in the bottom of the 18th to earn the win.

Pushard a freshman from Brewer pitched three scoreless innings in his first collegiate outing.

It was the longest game for the Black Bears since 1983, when they defeated Providence 5-4.

Maine is now 5-4. The teams were schedule to play a game Monday morning. That will not happen due to lack of pitching availability for both teams. They will play Tuesday at 11 AM.
