Bruins on verge of elimination after hard fought game four loss

April 19, 2017

The Boston Bruins are now on the brink of elimination, after losing a tough 1-0 decision to the Ottawa Senators Wednesday night at TD Garden in Boston. The Sens now lead the best of seven first round series 3-1 headed back to Ottawa for game five.

The Bruins thought they had broken the scoreless tie in the second period, when defenseman Charlie McAvoy scored what was believed to be his first career NHL goal in just his fourth career game. But after a review, it was clear the Bruins were offsides and the goal was disallowed. The teams remained scoreless after 40 minutes.

Ottawa would get what proved to be the game winner at the 5:49 mark of the third period. Bobby Ryan would pick up a loose rebound and attempt to push it past a sprawling Tuuka Rask. Rask would make the initial save, but Ryan would tuck the second chance under Rask for his third goal of the series and his second game winner.

Rask played well for the Bruins and finished with 26 saves in the loss. Craig Anderson stopped all 22 shots to earn the victory for Ottawa. Ottawa was 0-3 on the powerplay, while Boston was 0-1.

Boston will need to win three straight games to advance to the next round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Game five from Canadian Tire Center in Ottawa will take place Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
