The University of Maine softball team had their offensive attack slowed down for the first six innings during Wednesday afternoons non league contest with Holy Cross. But Maine would rally for a big four run seventh inning to take a 5-4 win at Worcester, Massachusetts.
Maine had been held to just a sacrifice fly RBI from Felicia Lennon in the sixth inning and trailed the Crusaders 4-1 after six.
Rachel Harvey hit a two run double in the seventh to cut the lead to 4-3, and then Alyssa Derrick smacked her 10th homerun of the year, and the two run blast was enough as the Bears pulled out the one run victory.
Annie Kennedy (5-3) went the distance to earn the win in the circle for Maine. Kennedy allowed four runs, only one earned, eight hits, and had three strikeouts in the seven innings pitched.
Maine improves to 13-18 with the win, while Holy Cross dropped to 7-24. The Black Bears have won four in a row and 10 of their last 11 games.
Maine returns to conference play with a series at University of Maryland-Baltimore County this weekend. A single game will be played Friday at 3 p.m., while a doubleheader takes place Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.
