Tanaka outpitches Sale in great pitching duel

April 27, 2017

Masahiro Tanaka fired a three hitter to lead the New York Yankees to a 3-0 win over the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on Friday night.

Tanaka only needed 97 pitches to get through nine innings. He didn’t issue a walk and struck out three.

Chris Sale turned in his fifth outstanding performance and his fourth straight game with at least 10 strikeouts. He joins Roger Clemens, Pedro Martinez, and Jon Lester as the only pitchers to accomplish that feat. Sale allowed two earned runs in eight innings. He allowed eight hits without a walk with his 10 strikeouts.

Hanley Ramirez had two of the three hits for the Red Sox. Matt Holliday had two hits and two RBI for the Yankees.
