At Vestal, New York Saturday, the Maine softball team had their seven game winning streak snapped with a 6-3 loss to Binghamton in game one of a doubleheader. The Bearcats also won game two by a score of 5-1.
In game one, the Bearcats smashed three homeruns to pick up the win, including two solo shots by third baseman Kate Richard. Meaghan Royle paced the Bears offense with two RBI, while Erin Bogdonavich (5-8) took the loss in the circle.
In game two, Binghamton starting pitcher Shelby Donhasuer (5-4) went the distance and didn’t allow any earned runs on six hits to help the Bearcats to the sweep. Molly Flowers (6-8) took the loss for Maine, only going 2.2 innings. Flowers walked nine, including three with the bases loaded in the third to break the game open. Rachel Carlson had an RBI triple for the only Bears offense.
Maine is now 16-20, and 10-3 in America East. Binghamton is 20-21, 10-2. The two teams finish the three game series tomorrow at 1 p.m.
