Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 218 past athlete of the week winners.
This week, we had nine Rowell’s Garage female athlete of the week nominations. Katelin Saunders didn’t allow any runs in three appearances to lead the Bucksport softball team to a 3-0 week. It is the second athlete of the week honor for Saunders. She also earned the honor on May 21st, 2016.
Roadrunner Taxi female athlete of the week
Katelin Saunders- Bucksport- softball- the junior pitched a four hitter with 13 strikeouts and had two hits with the bat in 7-0 win over Dexter. Pitched a two hitter with 12 strikeouts in 2-0 win over Central. Pitched a two hitter with six strikeouts, plus had two doubles and three RBI in 15-0 win over Washington Academy.
Runner up
Leine Mckechnie- PVHS- softball- the freshman pitcher recorded her first varsity win by pitching a two hitter with 12 strikeouts and allowing only two earned runs in 11-5 win over Katahdin. Pitched a no hitter with 15 strikeouts plus had a hit, two RBI, and four runs scored in 21-0 win over Bangor Christian.
Other nominations
Paige Preston- Washington Academy- softball- had three hits and five RBI in 20-2 win over George Stevens.
Alivia Hunt- PCHS- softball-had four hits and five RBI in 25-0 win over Lee Academy.
Broghan Gagnon- Winslow – softball- pitched a no-hitter and didn’t walk a batter in 4-0 win over Nokomis.
Haley Ward- Winslow- softball- had four hits, including a double, three runs scored, and three RBI in 22-7 win over Mount View. Had two singles and two runs scored in 4-0 win over Nokomis.
Haley McLaughlin- Mattanawcook- softball- pitched a four hitter with 12 strikeouts, plus two hits, including a double and two RBI in 18-3 win over Stearns. Pitched a four hitter with 12 strikeouts, with only one earned run allowed and also had a double that scored two runs in 8-5 win over Dexter.
Emma Alley- Stearns – softball- allowed only one unearned run and seven hits, no walks, and struck out four in 2-1 win over PCHS.
Jenna Keach- Searsport- softball- struck out 12, while walking only one, plus had a double, two walks, and one run scored in 11-4 win over Temple Academy. Struck out 13, walked two in complete game shutout, plus reached base twice in 1-0 win over Greenville.
