McKechnie and the Howlers snap Richmond’s 88 game streak to capture class D state title

June 17, 2017

The Penobscot Valley High School (PVHS) Howlers had their bus break down on the way to the Maine Principals’ Association class D softball state championship game at Standish on Saturday afternoon.

If that wasn’t enough, when they got there they had to face a Richmond team that was on an 88 game winning streak, including four straight titles.

Freshman Leine McKechnie wasn’t fazed by all that. McKechnie pitched a no-hitter and struck out 11 in the Howlers 4-0 win. If that wasn’t enough, McKechnie also smacked a three run home run in a four run seventh inning.

Lexi Ireland had three hits, including a triple. Erynn Williams got the go ahead RBI, before McKechnie added the Insurance runs.
