Pomeranz has strong outing but bullpen falters in Sox loss at Kansas City

Drew Pomeranz had a strong outing, but it wasn’t enough as the Boston Red Sox fell 6-4 in their series finale at Kansas City on Wednesday afternoon.

Pomeranz allowed only two runs on six hits and one walk, while striking out five in 6.1 innings. 

The Red Sox held a 4-2 lead in the eighth inning. Matt Barnes walked the first two batters in the bottom of the eighth. Robby Scott (0-1) walked Eric Hosmer, Salvador Perez followed with his first career grand slam.

Andrew Benintendi and Xander Bogaerts hit back to back home runs in the fourth inning for the Red Sox. Bogaerts reached base three times.

The Red Sox were 29-0 in games they had a lead after seven innings coming into the day.
