The Oakland Raiders announced Thursday that they have given quarterback Derek Carr a five year extension.
Carr is scheduled to make 1.2 million in the upcoming 2017-18 season, but the extension is worth 125 million. That will give Carr an average salary of 25 million per year beginning with the 2018-19 season and will run through 2022-2023. That average salary is the highest ever in league history. 70 million dollars is guaranteed for Carr.
Carr is coming off a season in which he threw for 3,937 yards, 28 TD, and six interceptions. Carr suffered a broken leg in the fourth quarter of the Raiders second to last game of the season against the Colts on December 24. Carr was lost for the remainder of the season, and Connor Cook took over. The Raiders dropped their last regular season game, and then lost in a wild card playoff game 27-14 to Houston on January 13.
