Devers and Sale spark Red Sox to win over Mariners

July 26, 2017

Rafael Devers smashed a home run to deep center field in the third inning on Wednesday afternoon for his first major league hit.

Chris Sale took care of the rest. Sale allowed three hits and walked one, while striking out 11 in seven shutout innings to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 4-0 win at Seattle.

It is the 14th game this year that Sale has struck out at least 10 in a game. The Red Sox are 15-6 in games started by Sale, 41-41 in other games.

Devers finished with two hits. Sandy Leon smacked a two run home run. Jackie Bradley JR and Dustin Pedroia had two hits each. Craig Kimbrel came on to strike out the final two batters to record his 25th save.

The win snapped the first four game losing streak of the season for the Red Sox.
