Fister becomes third pitcher in Red Sox history to throw complete game one-hitter

August 23, 2017

Doug Fister pitched a one-hitter to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 9-1 win at Cleveland on Tuesday night

Francisco Lindor hit a lead-off home run for the Indians. It is the first time since Jack McDowell (White Sox) in 1991 that a pitcher threw a complete game one-hitter after giving up a lead-off home run.

Fister joins Josh Beckett (2011) and Jon Lester (2013) as the only pitchers in Red Sox history to throw a complete game one-hitter.

Fister walked two and struck out six on 114 pitches.

Eduardo Nunez led the Red Sox offense with two hits and five RBI, including a three run home run.

Jackie Bradley JR had two hits, including a home run. Bradley injured his thumb when sliding into home plate late in the game. He will miss the rest of the series as he was sent back to Boston for more tests.
