The University of Maine womens soccer team gained their second win of the season Sunday afternoon, while the field hockey team got beaten for the second time in the 2017 season.
At Orono, Kayla Brace scored on a first half penalty kick and Kendra Ridley scored on a corner kick to lead Maine soccer to a 2-1 win over Marist.
Nicole Sasso had tied the game in the 41st minute of the first half for visiting Marist (3-4-0).
Marist attempted 14 shots, with five on goal, compared to just six attempts by Maine with two coming on the net.
Maine (2-4-1) will travel to meet Cornell Saturday at 1 p.m.
In a neutral site game played at Burlington, Vermont the Maine Black Bear field hockey team came up short by a score of 3-2 to undefeated Cornell (4-0).
Maine fell behind 2-0 in the first 15 minutes of the first half on Cornell goals by Sam McIlwrick and Isabel Siergiej. The Bears battled back to tie it on a pair of goals by Samantha Wagg at the 19th and 23rd minute to go into halftime at 2-2. Libby Riedl and Emily Hindle assisted on both Wagg goals.
Krysten Mayers would score three minutes into the second half for the decisive goal and keeping the Big Red unbeaten.
Maine had a 20-11 advantage on shots attempted, including a 13-7 advantage with shots on goal.
Maine (4-2-0) will head on the road to battle Dartmouth Sunday at noon.
