Rossman gets hat trick in Tigers semifinal win over Boothbay

DEXTER– Last year, The Dexter Tigers field hockey team had their season end in a semifinal loss to Winthrop. This year, Hayley Rossman made sure the season wasn’t going to end in the semifinal round. Rossman scored three goals, including two in the second half to lead the Tigers to a 4-2 win over Boothbay in a Maine Principals’ Association class C semifinal game on Friday afternoon.

“Last year, we didn’t make it past this game and it was crushing.,”Rossman said. “This year, it is just an amazing feeling. We really want that championship.”

Sydney Meader gave the Seahawks a lead when she beat the Tigers defense to make it 1-0. It didn’t take Rossman and the Tigers long to respond.  Just 2:13 after the Boothbay goal, Rossman took an assist from Becca Batron to make it 1-1.  Tory Asbury gave the Tigers a 2-1 halftime lead when she scored with 5:18 remaining in the half.

The Seahawks came out strong to start the second half. Chloe Arsenault evened the score just 1:33 into the second half on an assist from Meader. Rossman gave the Tigers a lead they wouldn’t give back with 21:15 remaining.. Rossman added the Insurance goal with 3:19 remaining.

Kaitlyn Webber recorded two assists, while Asbury and Cheyenne Beem had one assist each. Amanda Haskell made nine saves. Dexter (14-2) will take on Winthrop in the regional final at Hampden Academy on Tuesday, October 24th. Winthrop defeated Stearns 2-1 in a semifinal game on Friday. Emily Amaral made eight saves for the Seahawks. Boothbay ends their season with a 13-3 record.
