Eagles football cruises past Mustangs on Senior Day

November 11, 2017

John Smith became the top running back in yardage ever in all of New England regardless of division (6,597 yards), and also moved up to fifth nationally all time in Division III football Saturday with a 287 yard effort and five touchdowns, to lead the Husson Eagles to a 42-14 win over Mt. Ida on senior day at Winkin Complex in Bangor.

Husson went up 21-0 before the half and never looked back, extending their home and conference winning streak and ending the regular season 9-1 overall and 7-0 in the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference, clinching their second consecutive conference title for first time in school history. Husson will await for selection Sunday to find out who, where, and when they play in the upcoming Division III playoffs. It is very likely the Eagles could host at least a first round game in Bangor next week.

Cory Brandon also passed for 142 yards Saturday with a touchdown. Elvin Suazo Jr had five tackles and a sack, and Christian Mowerer had four tackles to lead the defense. Husson outgained Mt Ida 445-185 in total offense, with 303 of those yards on the ground. The Mustangs finish their season 4-6, 3-4 ECFC.
