Maine womens basketball goes overtime to knock off Bryant

Freshman guard Dor Saar knocked down a jump shot with about 1:30 left in overtime, and Maeve Carroll came up with a last second steal to wrap up a 70-68 win for the University of Maine women’s basketball team over Bryant Tuesday night at the Cross Insurance Center.

Blanca Millan led Maine (2-1) with 26 points, 11 rebounds, five steals, and three blocks. Saar had 12 points, and Tenesha Sutton chipped in 10 points and six rebounds to help the Bears to their second consecutive win. Maine shot 40 percent from the field, and held a nine point lead in the second quarter at 29-20, before Bryant charged back to tie it 29-29 at the half. The Bears turned the ball over 14 times in the contest.

Bryant (0-3), was led by Sydney Holloway who had 19 points and 12 rebounds. Naomi Ashley added 16 points and seven rebounds. Bryant shot 47 percent from the floor, but turned it over 21 times. The Bulldogs held a 61-54 lead in the fourth quarter, before Maine scored nine of the final 11 points to force overtime.

Maine will host University of Maine-Fort Kent on Thursday night at 7 p.m.
