Maine blanked by Providence in Friendship Four

The #10 Providence College Friars extended their unbeaten streak over the Maine Black Bears to 15 on Friday, by skating to a 3-0 Hockey East victory in Belfast, Northern Ireland in the third annual Friendship Four Tournament.

Maine (4-7, 3-4 Hockey East), has now been shutout in consecutive games. Ryan Tait scored his first of two goals for PC with 4:48 left in second period to break the scoreless tie. Brian Pinho added a powerplay goal in the third period, and Tait added an empty netter later to provide the difference. PC is now 14-0-1 against the Black Bears in the past 15 matchups.

Jason O’Neill added a pair of assists for Providence (8-4-1, 5-3-1). Hayden Hawkey made 24 saves to earn the shutout win for the Friars. Jeremy Swayman made 34 stops in the Black Bear net.

Maine will face RPI in a consolation game Saturday at 11 a.m., while Providence will face #5 Clarkson for the tournament title at 2 p.m.
